Victory over death
Each week I read Yahoo’s “odd” news, and you can draw any conclusion you desire about that. Anyway, this week a story of a California couple named Carlos and Donna Royal was posted. The news account was reporting the two year long epic of a backyard “birth” and eyewitness. Now before your imagination runs wild let me explain. The Royals erected a fifteen foot tall pole in their San Diego back yard, and atop that pole they placed a wooden box; an owl box. Then they hooked up a video camera to record and produce live pictures of the box’s happenings. Well sure enough a couple of barn owls made their home in the box and have started an owl family. The Royals have named the mommy and daddy owls Molly and McGee. On March twenty-first the first owlet hatched, and the forth little owl hatched last Sunday with only one remaining to make his/her internet debut. That’s right you can click on ustream.tv/theowlbox and witness the event. Since the site was posted it has received three million hits. More than seventeen thousand people watched the first hatching. So far the Royals have named the little ones; Max, Pattison, Austin and Wesley.
Think for just a moment of the mass of people that witnessed a small little feathery owl crack through the shell and emerge into the world. Now take another minute to think of who was there to witness the Lord Jesus crack the shell of the tomb and walk from deaths cold clutches to emerge alive for evermore. He had told his disciples, but where were they. The greatest moment in all of history, and they were not there. We cannot be at the tomb to witness His rising, but we can take advantage of what it means: Victory over death, Victory over sin, and Victory over satan. He died so we might have life, and He arose from death so we can have hope.
